AbstractOs sistemas transientes são baroclínicos, principalmente a partir do dia D-0,quando ocorre forte inclinação para oeste na vertical sobre o sul da AS. O aumento da baroclinia pode gerar desenvolvimento ciclogenético à leste dos Andes (Gan e Rao, 1994; Jusevicius, 1999). A intensificação do ciclone ao passar a barreira topográfica sugere que a ciclogênese à sotavento possa surgir pela interação entre a forçante orográfica e os distúrbios transientes (Hayes et al., 1987). A presença do ciclone à leste dos Andes e seu fortalecimento induz à intensificação do anticilone sobre o Oceano Atlântico Sul. Escoamento associado aos ciclone e anticiclone transientes gera um ramo de ventos de norte sobre a Argentina. Com a intensificação desses sistemas, o gradiente de pressão leste-oeste aumenta corrente acima, gera um desequilíbrio, o qual produz uma força resultante dirigida de sul, entre o ciclone e a alta,intensificando os ventos em baixos níveis e forçando o surgimento do JBN, com uma região de ventos máximos sobre a Bolívia e o Paraguai. A ciclogênese à sotavento, causada pela interação dos distúrbios baroclínicos associados ao efeito dos Andes, gerou a intensificação do gradiente de pressão zonal, contribuindo para a intensificação dos ventos de norte à leste dos Andes. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of the transient disturbances in the development of Low-Level Jets (LLJ)at leeside of the Andes Cordillera. It was used wind components and geopotential height daily mean provided by NCEP/NCAR reanalysis, and are on a 2.5º x 2.5º latitude-longitude grid. It was calculated composite charts of wind components anomalies for 850 hPa and geopotential anomalies for 1000 hPa and 200 hPa for the period 1 December 1979 - 28 February 2004, separated by season, and with a lag of -3 days before the occurrence of the LLJ and +2 days after your occurrence. We too calculated charts of divergence in 200 hPa and vorticity in 850 hPa to verify the vertical pattern of the disturbances. The analysis of the low and upper-level charts show that there are a wave pattern that propagates to east since the -3 day with a phase velocity of about 10º/day. When the pattern in low-levels approaches the Andes, we can see that there are intensification of the wave and exhibits orographic effects such a anticyclonic turning. In upper levels, there are zonal trajectory, except to winter, when the pattern have a northwest to southeast propagation. The charts show a cyclonic center approaches of the Andes and a falling in the geopotential height in this region. The topographic effect, then, contribute to the formation of the cyclogenesis, that is verify by the intensification of the geopotential gradient in day -1 and day 0. To the formation of the LLJ, was noted that the transient anticyclonic center located at the South Atlantic, contribute to the intensification of the winds east of the Andes, by the formation of a pressure gradient east to west, genearting an intensification of the northwest winds in low-levels. It was too verify a pattern of divergernce in upper levels elongated to northwest to to southeast two days after the occurence fo the LLJ.
